True, but although I'm spending more and more of my time in Windows, due to my current job, I also use Linux, so I don't want to be tied into the Apple or Microsoft ecosystem exclusively. I can use my Google Contacts across my Windows, Linux and IOS systems.

I don't doubt that Exchange may be better than IMAP, but I haven't run into anything I consider a shortcoming with IMAP. The lack of push notifications doesn't bother me since that just isn't a feature of my email client I'd take advantage of anyway.

Yes, I'm sure there are plug-ins or work-arounds, but the fact is
that if one is invested in the Windows platform for computers and if
you use iDevices then in my view Outlook.com or, if you want to pay,
Office 365 are the way to go and will offer the most seamless
experience. I never liked IMAP that much and, for example, Push email
doesn't work with gmail and to me that is definitely a reason to use
Outlook.com apart from the fact that I trust Microsoft more than
Google, but that's subjective and I don't want to start a huge debate
over this as it's not really on topic.

Subject: Re: What options for syncing contacts to PC

I do something similar with Google contacts. On my iPhone, I just set
up Gmail and then make sure contacts is turned on. On my PC, I run
Thunderbird and use a plug in called GContactSync. I can just edit
and add contacts in Thunderbird's address book and then hit the
GContactSync -> Sync option to sync everything up. I haven't checked,
but their may be plugins for Outlook to sync with Google Contacts as
well.

Personally I prefer to use a cloud based email service and my
preference
is
Outlook.com from Microsoft. It uses Exchange Active Sync and if you
use it you just set up your email account on the iPhone as a
Microsoft Outlook account, all you need to provide are your
@outlook.com or @hotmail.com
etc.
email address and password, then turn on Mail, Contacts and, if you
want, Calendars and it will all sync. On your PC you would use
Outlook 2010 and install the free Outlook Connector or, if you use
Office 2013 the functionality is built in and once again you just
provide your Outlook.com email and password when you set up your
email account in Outlook.

All your email and Contacts are kep in the cloud, if you ever get a
new PC or new iPhone or maybe you buy an iPad down the road, all
you do is set up your account and all your emails and contacts will
sync to your new
device,
you never lose anything if your device breaks or is stolen.

Subject: What options for syncing contacts to PC

I have recently upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7. I
previously used the Windows address book to manage my contacts and
then just synced to my iPhone. Now, with Windows 7 I guess there is
no address book and no equivalent? What are my options for entering
new contacts without doing it directly on my iPhone contacts?
Thanks, Jeff
