Hi Fanus, Outlook.com is free, it is just the new name for what used to be the Hotmail service, then Microsoft called it Windows Live for a while and now that they are offering @outlook.com email addresses, they are calling the service Outlook.com. Just like gmail it's free to sign up for an email/account. If you use Skype you can now also use your Outlook.com credentials to sign into Skype. The first time you do this it asks you to then enter your old Skype name and password and it then links your Skype name to your Outlook.com account which Microsoft also calls your "Microsoft Account". You can go to www.outlook.com to sign up, keep in mind that there is a captcha during this process, it has audio, but it can be hard to understand and it's easier if you do want to sign up to have a sighted person there to tell you what the captcha is.
One last comment since this is not strictly on topic for the list, but of course people ask about using gmail on iDevices all the time, too. The web interface for the service could be a bit more accessible, but if you generally use Outlook on the computer to download your mail and the mail app on your iOS device you really rarely need to log in to your account online. Personally I prefer to use a cloud based email service and my preference is Outlook.com from Microsoft. It uses Exchange Active Sync and if you use it you just set up your email account on the iPhone as a Microsoft Outlook account, all you need to provide are your @outlook.com or @hotmail.com etc. email address and password, then turn on Mail, Contacts and, if you want, Calendars and it will all sync. On your PC you would use Outlook 2010 and install the free Outlook Connector or, if you use Office 2013 the functionality is built in and once again you just provide your Outlook.com email and password when you set up your email account in Outlook. All your email and Contacts are kep in the cloud, if you ever get a new PC or new iPhone or maybe you buy an iPad down the road, all you do is set up your account and all your emails and contacts will sync to your new device, you never lose anything if your device breaks or is stolen. I previously used the Windows address book to manage my contacts and then just synced to my iPhone. Now, with Windows 7 I guess there is no address book and no equivalent? What are my options for entering new contacts without doing it directly on my iPhone contacts? Thanks, Jeff -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the "VIPhone" Google Group.
