Hi Ricardo,
My point simply is that, in an environment like ours, we should assume
that
everyone is doing their best and, who cares if their punctuation or way of
expression is correct. If that is their best, that's what we have to
accept
and deal with. When a person is not able to express themselves well, it
is
not the role of this list to make them feel bad with insensitive comments
and I do feel that telling people to come up with better messages when
they
are doing their best is insensitive.
Thank you for your understanding that no 2 people here have the same
ability
or disability

Hi,
I'm not sure what your message below has too do with what Bill said. I
would think proof reading ones message would be a good practice no matter
what your native language, or education happens to be. I'm confused about
why you feel pointing out that proof reading some how insults people who
don't speak English as a first language, etc. After all, everyone makes
mistakes. Why not try to catch them ahead of time if possible? If you
can't, for what ever reason, then obviously, what Bill said wouldn't apply
to you.
Or, Am I completely miss reading this?

Bill,
You are clearly forgetting that this is a worldwide list and not
everyone's command of the English language is the same. For a great
number of people on this list, English is not their first language and
I am one of them. We all share one thing, we are visually impaired or
blind and this is what is bringing us together. Some of the people on
this list may very well have another impairment and may not have your
level of understanding or education. You clearly need a good dose of
knowing how to deal with a different situation and, having said that,
maybe you are one of the people who has a problem doing that. We respect
you for who you are, please
consider returning the favour.

Probably the biggest thing that would help everyone's understanding is
if people would just stop a second and listen to their message before
posting it. I know, reading ones own writing isn't fun, but it is
better that one checks to make sure they understand it themselves
before they post it and make us all wonder what they meant. People
will need time to reply, so if it takes a poster an extra second to
read their message before posting it, there shouldn't be much difference
in reply speed.

I want to make a note on this list regarding a recent thread that
appeared to be bashing some members for not taking "due diligence" in
composing messages.
First, let me confess to the fact that I seem to recall having
composed a message chastising folks for careless punctuation -- if
any punctuation at all. And that on the surface, that post may have
seemed inconsiderate, non-supportive and lacking in compassion. But,
also allow me to clearly state that the post was far more a result of
frustration and impatience than a lack of compassion and support.
This entire issue has everything to do with the fact that many of us
must listen to the posts than anybody suffering from "school marmosis."
And when listening to questionably composed messages the screen
readers get really annoying. When I could see to read e-mail
messages, I could not have cared less how well grammar was adhered to
in
those messages.
But now that I must listen to the messages, it becomes so very
mind-boggling to try to understand so constructed messages.
I'm not going to call anybody lazy or uneducated or disrespectful,
but I will say that I do find listening to poorly composed messages a
terribly frustrating chore.
Now, please note that I said "listening to . . . messages" (there's
an ellipses embedded within that quoted phrase) can be terribly
frustrating and not that the people who send them are such. There's
a huge difference in that distinction and please be mindful that most
of us are not picking on anybody; we're just frustrated. And that
often is because we all know someone is reaching out for help and
we're having difficulty receiving that plea for help. So folks,
please don't be leaving the list because you think you're being
picked on, that is most likely just not the case. From what I've
seen of this list, there is a whole lot of good will here and a
desire to help each other so do not "throw the baby out with the bath
water."
