It is a pity. The developer of Feeddler sent a tweet to say that the app wasn't going away and to stay tuned. The issue of course is that if a bunch of replacements emerge, and you enjoy reading RSS content across platforms, you'll need to find a solution that is accessible on all the platforms.
Google's been doing a bit of house cleaning of late, closing services. But I think they're underestimated just how much reaction shutting Reader down was going to cause.
