Hmm, well I use Thunderbird, and like I said, I only have meials in my Trash folder going back just over a month. Of course, I have messages much older than that in All Mail, but that's because of messages I've moved into different folders.
To be honest, I almost never go into trash or All Mail. I pretty much just stay in my In Box and occasionally refer to various folders where I've stored email messages. I just focus on keeping my In Box and my own folders organized and just let Gmail take care of the rest.
