Once you have added your card, you just hold the phone up to the card terminal in the store, Apple Pay will pop up and you then authenticate with Face Id or, if that somehow does not work, by entering your passcode. Another option is to first double click the side button and do your Face Id authentication, then hold the phone up to the terminal. Lastly, if you have an Apple Watch and you have a passcode set on it, you can also add your card to the wallet on your Apple Watch and as long as the watch is on your wrist and unlocked,, you just hold it to the terminal and no additional authentication is required.
