Leaving it alone for an hour, should enable restarting/signing in again with the passcode. Another failure then, means another hour out in the cold, and so on, until the sign-in passcode is done right. .

If the phone is on, or frozen, then VoiceOver should speak when the phone is ready for a new sign-in attempt (after an hour or whatever time-out is set at the moment.)


I think a sighted person can see how many minutes are left on the screen as the clock is counting down to re-sign-in. .
