Transfer data from your previous iOS device to your new iPhone, iPad, or iPod
touch

Set up your new iOS device from a backup of your previous iPhone, iPad, or iPod
touch.

Before you begin

If you have an Apple Watch and you got a new iPhone, unpair your Apple
Watch from your previous iPhone before you set up your new device. Unpairing
automatically backs up your Apple Watch so you can restore it after you pair
with a new iPhone.

Make sure that you have a backup of your device.

Have your Apple ID and password ready.

Transfer your SIM card. If your new device needs a different SIM card than
what you have, or an eSIM, contact your carrier.

Select a method

Next, select one of these transfer methods.

Quick Start: Use your iPhone or iPad that's already running iOS 11 or later to
automatically set up a new device.

iCloud: Transfer your data and purchased content to your new device from your
previous device's iCloud backup.

iTunes or Finder: Transfer your data and purchased content to your new device
from a backup you made with iTunes or Finder.

Subject: Re: Best way to Restore a backup to a new Iphone in 2020?

It should; I did it when I transferred from a 5S to this SE in May of 2018.
Good luck!

I have an iphone 6splus, and wonder if it's new enough to take advantage of the

available with the 7 line and newer.

Thanks,

Hello Gerardo,

In most cases, there's no advantage to restoring from an iTunes backup. Unless
you have a very old version of iTunes that stores your apps on your computer,
the apps will be downloaded over the Internet regardless of how you are
restoring. If you use an encrypted iTunes backup, the same information will be
backed up either way. If you don't encrypt your backup, health data and
passwords won't be backed up. In both cases, you have to restore from the
backup as part of the setup process, so if your carrier sets up your phone,
you'll have to start over either way.

Best,

Anna

Over the years, I’ve heard that ITunes is advisable for when getting a new
iPhone, as a vehicle to restore the previous Iphone’s backup, but too I’ve
heard oppinions that ICloud is as effective as ITunes when doing this.

The reason I’m asking is because when in Telcel (my carrier) it comes time to
upgrade my phone, they generally give me the phone working with VoiceOver set
up, thus I feel kind of bad having to restore it to factory and set it up
again, only to backup my previous iPhone’s settings, apps and the like. I
wonder if with ITunes,of course having backed up the previous iPhone 1st, would
it only involve less hassel in plugging inthe new phone, logging in with my
Apple ID, and backing up.

Thus I’ve several questions for you’ll if I do decide to take the plunge and
backup via ITunes tinstime around:

1.-Does more stuff back up with ITunes than with ICloud? Also what advantages
are there in incrypting the backup, versus leaving it as it is?

2.-Can one restore an ICloud backup from ITunes, without having to backup to
the computer via ITunes first the previous phone?

3.-If I do decide to restore my backup via ITunes on my new phone

3A.-When would I log-in to my Apple ID on the new phone, set up the Apple
Passcode to unlock the phone, hence too Touch ID (my phone will hopefully be
the SE 2nd Generation), as well as connect my new phone to my WiFi network?
Before starting with the backup process from ITunes, or will ITunes tell me the
steps involved along the way?

4.-Have any of you guys recorded recently an audio tutorial involved in
restoring a new phone from ITunes, instead of via ICloud?

Thanks for all the help you can give before having to decide the best course of
action to go with.
