Hello Wayne, I had an iPhone 6S Plus and now have the regular iPhone 8 and on neither phone do I have any issues with starting up the phone after a shutdown using the power button on the side. If you are ever with a sighted person I'd get them to take a look as you do it because they can let you know when the Apple appears and what happens next. I usually wait 4 or 5 seconds. However, when I had my 7 Plus, I nearly always got a fresh start when holding the power button in for the 4 or 5 seconds. With the 8 Plus, if I go to the trouble of turning it off, I have tried the power on sequence described above, waited for a minute or two, and nothing happened. The times I have purposely turned my phone off to reboot it, I have had to plug it into a charger to reboot it fully. My usual method of holding the button for about 5 seconds has not worked in a while. I try multiple times before plugging it in, but still no go. This worked flawlessly with my prior phones, so I have wondered if there's something in iOS which may be the issue.
