I did this exact thing earlier this summer. I was totally locked out. Apple Accessibility was no help really. He told me that he could walk me through the process if I had iTunes, but I had never backed up to iTunes and didn’t have access to this from where I was calling. I ended up going into an Apple store and had a great experience with a technician there. I knew my photos were backed up to iCloud, but I wasn’t sure about the rest. I had resigned myself to thinking I could lose a lot. As it turned out, she completely wiped my phone and reinstalled the IOS. Then she connected to iCloud and, thankfully, found that pretty much everything was backed up there. So, I highly recommend just going into an Apple store with your Apple ID and having them do the process for you.
