Carol, Christopher already explained how the Lightning cable/plug looks, just plug the regular USB end into the charger and an outlet, then plug the small end into your iPhone on the bottom in the middle. The port is exactly where the 30 pin connector used to go in but it's of course a lot smaller and, as Christopher said, the nice thing is that you can't plug it in wrong, it goes either way.
