Hello Mary,

With the phone attached, from the file menu of iTunes, find the device list.
Then, you will see a sub-item that says Transfer purchases.

I am writing this from memory, so please forgive my inexactness in describing
the process.

You know, it's funny. Whenever I sync my device on my computer, all purchased
items are automatically synchronized. However, I have two friends both of whom
have to manually transfer purchases whenever they attach their phones to their
respective computers. We are all using iTunes 12.3, however.

Mark

Subject: iTunes back up questions

I just did a back up of my iPad preparatory to installing iOS 9. When I went to
get the update, it told me I had purchased items which should be transferred,
and did I want to continue anyway? So I canceled out and tried to find a way to
get the purchased items to transfer over. I did a "sink". That didn't do the
job. I found the purchased items in the table of playlist on the Mac. There are
a lot of things in there, and they all have checkboxes checked and dimmed. So,
I am at a loss. Deciding that all this purchased stuff is really already backed
up in iCloud and my purchased list,, I decided to proceed. However, I really
would like to know how to back up these items to my Mac Before doing this iPad
back up, I also did a back up for my iPhone, where I have bought a very few
things. I did not see any sort of warning about my items needing to be
transferred, which now makes me wonder about the integrity of that back up. It
has been a very long time since I used iTunes to back up anything. Clearly, I'm
missing something.
Mary
