Alan, and others
Thank you for trying to help with specifics of what I should hear, and where
things were. One problem was that I was not signed in as I had thought. Once
signed in I found the settings I wanted to turn on through the my account
link. Now it seems that when the app opens it says ok google and I'm ready
to search. All the latest news stuff is gone, or at least it was the last
time I looked!
I find it interesting that sighted persons who try to help have a
mindset where they think something should work a certain way, even when I
give them specific different info. I often prove them wrong, such as that
you can indeed have a non g mail e mail sign in for google, and that you can
have more than one sign in, though of course, that isn't exactly logical or
particularly efficient either. I don't find doing mail on the phone all that
comfortable and primarily do e mail from my desktop. I created a g mail e
mail to use only on the phone and I've got a Verizon account I access on the
computer.
Now it's back to that audio demo to see what Jonathan discovered,
which I have not yet discovered. So far I am disappointed that when Google
find results it only tells me that it has found them but it does not
automatically read them. Maybe I am missing an additional button I need to
hit on to get the speaker to read all the findings.

Deidre,
When I open the latest version of the Google app, here are the buttons I get
:

In the upper left corner of the screen is what I assume is my account button
which I described in my last post. It has a small picture of me and says my
name when it has focus. When I swipe right once, the next announced button
is search field where you type text if searching the old fashioned way. The
next swipe right goes to the voice search button which you can use to call
up the voice search if speaking okay Google doesn't work. The last button
reached when swiping right is Google now which when executed will provide
relevant information to your location such as current weather, etc. Finally,
they're is a recents button in the top right corner of the screen which for
some reason is skipped when swiping through the screen. I assume it shows
your recent Google searches.

I hope this helps.
