Deidre, Be aware that at least one new version of the Google app has been released since Jonathan did his comparison with Siri piece. I'm running the latest version like you and one of the first things I did was to sign on using my Google account. Now, when I open the app, I'm still logged in with a button in the top left of the screen with a thumbnail picture which I have on my account. I guess this is like an account or profile button because when I execute it, the settings page you are seeking opens.
I don't know if that helps but maybe it will give you something else to try. Good luck.
