Your anecdotal evidence is meaningless, please, don't encourage others to use obsolete machine types. Plenty have profiled it and even the developers tell you that Q35 is the way to go. "Surprisingly stable" is not a sound endorsement of i440fx. If you couldn't make an AMD GPU work, that's probably because you didn't create a valid PCIe heirarchy.
