Yep! It controls just the domain directory layout.
dom_89 is short for "domain_directory_layout_user_id_89"
since 89 was reserved for vpopmail by one of the *nix distributions .

excellent! i tried it, it works - many thanks.

now all i have to do is figure out how to get the two existing domains i had to create for customers that are still under the '5' subdir to be under '1'. i can't find any way to do it besides deleting and re-creating the domains, which isn't exactly elegant...
