All,

I've got a domain with an alias 'allstaff' that has about 40 pop users
listed. A message was sent to this alias, and here's what was found in the
qmail log:

2001-07-22 20:56:26.429604500 starting delivery 288214: msg 1507878 to local
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
2001-07-22 20:56:26.429736500 status: local 1/10 remote 3/30
2001-07-22 20:56:29.014227500 delivery 288214: deferral:
Unable_to_chdir_to_maildir._(#4.2.1)/

What I want to know, is which damned maildir can't vdelivermail get into?
As far as I can tell, it's delivering the message to everyone listed in the
.qmail-allstaff file, every Maildir/ exists and is otherwise recieving mail
just fine.

Well, qmail has been trying to deliver this message for days, and everyone
in the domain in question has recieved the message at least 20 times over,
and the message is STILL in the mail queue. What is causing this? I've
verified the permissions on every maildir listed in the .qmail-allstaff
file, and we've even sent a good half-dozen messages to the alias without a
problem.

I've since changed the .qmail-allstaff file to contain email addresses
instead of Maildir paths. This works much smoother, but is far less
convenient as vpopmail likes to pump everything back through qmail instead
of just delivering the damned message straight up for local domains (also
served by vpopmail under the same uid/gid).

FreeBSD 4.3-STABLE
Qmail 1.03
Vpopmail 4.9.8
