Something sounds funky on your machine because I've never had the
above happen.  Albeit I don't use `strace' often.

But based on what you've written below, is the problem with your Guest
O/S running some crazy bits?

I've found `task manager' to be fairly reliable.  Especially if you
look at the systray icon for it, if your CPU is 100%, it'll be a solid
bright green in the `systray'
