Hi Mike,

X.org 1.5.2 is the version of the X11/ XWindow system running on my (Ubuntu 
8.10) system using the intel (intel_drv.so) driver.
Have a look at:
/var/log/Xorg.0.log
There you can see what happend while starting/ running the X system.
Can you run any other OS inside your VirtualBox on this host? e.g. run a live-
CD like Knoppix in a VM without a virtual harddisk just starting from the ISO 
as the virtual CD-drive.
Maybe you try for testing just the same BSD live CD I tried?
