I think you're doing things all reversed. You should capture the VM
using a LINUX (host) based solution rather than a Windows (guest)
based solution.

Here's why: screen capture is a very CPU-intensive operation. By doing
the capturing inside the guest (windows) with Camtasia instead of the
host (Linux) you're placing all the burden inside the virtual machine,
thus making applications slower to appear etc.

Try using a LINUX based screen capture application... something like
vnc2swf ... go to Synaptic in your ubuntu and type "capture" you'll
see several Linux based screen capture apps.
