This link <https://files.ettus.com/manual/page_calibration.html#calibration_self_utils> indicates that the antenna ports are to remain unconnected. Since there is no internal loopback path, I believe that the calibration algorithm utilizes the "leakage" signal which is apparently strong enough such that it can be minimized with the appropriate calibration adjustments.
