Thanks for the suggestions, but unfortunately this solution won't work for me.
I am trying to use this to have the B210 located quite a distance from any
computer. I'd like to to be able to load the firmware over this link too.
Recompiling the firmware to not use USB 2 looks like the most promising path
right now, I just still am not quite fully sure how to do that and if it will
work.

I finally got things connected to the B210, and now I am having
software/firmware compatibility issues.

I did do searches for this issue already on the net, but the instructions are
very vague.

I already tried to uninstall GNU radio and reinstall.

The current version I have is 3.7.9.rc1.

GR-UHD was built against ABI: 3.9.0-0
But the UHD library reports ABI 3.10.1

Install a compatible version of UHD.

How do I do this? Is there a simple link somewhere to download the correct
software?

I am using Ubuntu 16.04 and oracle Virtualbox

Thanks again for any assistance.

Konstantin

Mareike,

sorry, this got lost in the nevernever. So, this is not a trivial
modification for a beginner, but I never want to discourage anyone from
trying.
I would recommend you get familiar with building regular FPGA images
first, and take a look at Verilog syntax. Once you think you have a
basic clue, I would recommend posting here again, but maybe start a new
thread.
We have some instructions in our manual for how to build FPGA images,
and there's also the knowledge base.

Cheers,
Martin

There is a possible work around. If you use the external power supply
and can keep power applied after an initial firmware download, then the
B210 will enumerate as a USB 3.0 only device.

Hi,

I am currently doing some developing and one of my goals is to be able to task
an x310 containing two twinRX daughter cards.

I am currently using Centos 6.5 as my linux OS; is this even possible or do I
need to upgrade to Centos 7.2?

If someone could lay out the minimum requirements for communication with an
x310 (containing 2 twinRX daughter cards) that would be fantastic as I am
currently having many issues.

Thank you

Mark

It's pretty raw, but there's fosphor code in gr-ettus that displays
stuff via browser. See here:
https://github.com/EttusResearch/gr-ettus/tree/master/web

Don't ask me any questions about it :)

Mark,

TwinRX requires UHD 3.10.0.0 minimum. See this page if your OS meets the
requirements: http://files.ettus.com/manual/page_build_guide.html

Note: We lock down the requirements per release, which means any 3.10.*
release will have the same requirements.

I think that CentOS 6.5 doesnt' meet all the requirements (maybe Boost
is too old or something), but I'm pretty sure that people have built UHD
on older CentOSes. Which Python version do you have? Maybe you can use
PyBOMBS which'll automate building everything from source.

Cheers,
Martin

Hello all,

The 3.9.7 release of UHD has been posted. This is an update to the Long
Term Support series. There was one commit between the release candidate and
the final release. This added some safety checks to the
uhd_images_downloader script when using custom destination directories.

The tag for this release is located here:
https://github.com/EttusResearch/uhd/releases/tag/release_003_009_007

Installers for Windows and Fedora, as well as the source code, are
available here:
http://files.ettus.com/binaries/uhd/uhd_003.009.007-release/

And the LTS PPA for Ubuntu will have updated installers shortly:
https://launchpad.net/~ettusresearch/+archive/ubuntu/uhd-3.9.lts
<https://launchpad.net/%7Eettusresearch/+archive/ubuntu/uhd-3.9.lts>

There have been 28 commits since the last release which can be viewed here:
https://github.com/EttusResearch/uhd/compare/release_003_009_006...release_003_009_007

## 003.009.007

* multi_usrp: Fixed get_normalized_tx_gain.
* E300: Fix for streamer recreation issue
* X300: Fix for network discovery, will now return early when correct
serial is found.
* CBX: Fixed LO LPF behaviour in 1.5-2 GHz range.
* UBX: Fixed dtor SIGABRT issue.
* GPSDO: Improved detection.
* Examples: Added channel param to samps to/from file. sync_to_gps exits
instead of uncaught throw.
* C API: Fixed some missing fields in USRP info.
* Docs: Many minor fixes.
* CMake: Fixed GCC 4.4 compilation issue. Added ability to specify package
names.

Regards,
Derek

configure them :

txrx_loopback_to_file.exe --file lb_test.dat --nsamps 10000000 --tx-rate
1000000 --rx-rate 2000000 --tx-freq 1000000000 --rx-freq 1000000000

--tx-gain 30 --rx-gain 40 --tx-ant TX/RX --rx-ant RX2 --wave-type SINE
--wave-freq 100000

Thanks a lot!

Hi,

Can anyone point to any documentation or give some insight on how the E310 FPGA
Verilog code design is laid out? I am not familiar with Verilog, and just
extrapolating from what I understand from VHDL. What is the top level module?
The e310.v file? What is the structure? I cannot find any documentation on the
FPGA code other than the build instructions found here:

https://files.ettus.com/manual/md_usrp3_build_instructions.html and the
comments in the verilog code itself. Is there anything else in terms of
documentation?

Thank you,

Jenn

Hi Jenn,

that's pretty much it. If you know VHDL, you'll have very little trouble
understanding Verilog though.

e310.v is the top-level. E310-specific modules are also in
usrp3/top/e310. We also pull in a lot of modules from usrp3/lib/*.

Cheers,
Martin

In fact, all of:

Is a useful resource.

Hi Mark, Hi Martin,

nope, to my experience, the hassle of setting up PyBOMBS' requirements
and then hand-fixing the non-working PyBOMBS recipes on CentOS6.5 is not
compensated by the trouble saved. This starts with ancient python on
Centos6, continues with under-circumstances-non-SSL-capable
python-requests, continues with build time dependencies and so on.

Mark, you can of course have a prefix (i.e. something that contains a
set of libraries, most of which you've build and installed yourself) in
your CentOS6.5 that can contain a sufficiently modern python, boost,
cmake, python-mako, and so on, but to be honest, that would be like a
manually managed distro within your CentOS6.5 installation. To be
honest, CentOS 7 has been out for 3 years and 12 days; I think it might
be safe to say that it might be time to update, if you're installing new
software on your system. Full update support of CentOS6 has ceased
mid-May this year. (Security updates will continue for years; this is
RedHat-land, where security-relevant updates are guaranteed for decades,
but you can't assume that new software will work with a decade-old system.)

Best regards,

Marcus

Preface: all this talks about uhd+gnuradio, uhd itself has far more slim
deps.

Last I used PyBOMBs (grcon last year) it didn't work too well on C6. Things
may have changed.
I know it was pushed pretty hard at grcon. I have gotten GR installed
thanks to Ben Hilbern's back port[1], but always built uhd 3.9 for the
Cent6/7 installs.

At a minimum I think you'll need newer python + a few modules, newer gcc(or
clang/icc?), C++11 is only partially implemented on C6 stock gcc, not sure
if uhd requires it (yet), possibly boost, though 1.48 might work.

CentOS 7 I think I still had to source build some deps, but I might be
mistaken. Either way it will be a much better experience getting it going.

I believe Ubuntu 16.04 LTS is the most tested. If your security folks or
whatever are willing that would probably be the best experience.

You could try to follow the building steps in Ben's blog for uhd, (sub in
same cmake arguments) and if it doesn't work, try Cent 7, or if RHEL isn't
a hard requirement, just install latest LTS Ubuntu.

Dear Martin,

So, CIC's status is a binary one. For example if the ratio is 3, 3%4 = 3
and because there is a remainder, the CIC is enabled. If the ratio is 20,
both half-bands will be enabled and CIC is disabled as 20%4 = 0. Did I
understand correctly?

Regards,
Altug

Hello Altug,

The CIC can be programed to decimate by a range of integer amounts. If the
ratio is 20 (50 MHz sampling rate, 2.5 MHz output rate) then both half
bands will be used (divide by 2*2) and the CIC will decimate by 5. Odd CIC
rates have poor filter roll off compared to even rates.

Hello all,

The release candidate of UHD version 3.10.2.0 has been tagged and is
available for testing. There have been no API breaking changes necessary
since the last release but a small ABI change means we are incrementing the
ABI number. Updated FPGA and firmware images have been uploaded.

The tag for this release:
https://github.com/EttusResearch/uhd/releases/tag/003_010_002_000_rc1

There have been 83 commits since the last release which can be viewed here:
https://github.com/EttusResearch/uhd/compare/release_003_010_001_001...003_010_002_000_rc1

## 003.010.002.000

* multi_usrp: Fixed get_normalized_tx_gain.
* E300: Fix for streamer recreation issue. Reduced minimum timeout, fixed
potential race condition.
* X300: Fix for network discovery, will now return early when correct
serial is found. Fixed issue with DAC sync. All async messages now go
through single DMA channel on PCIe. Improved TX performance. Fixed page
size acquisition for PCIe. Fixed some FW communication errors. Improved
flow control. Removed MTU throttling. Legacy compat falls back to min spp
for mixed transport types.
* CBX: Fixed LO LPF behaviour in 1.5-2 GHz range.
* UBX: Fixed dtor SIGABRT issue. Better error handling for various dboard
clock rates.
* TwinRX: Added LO reimport feature.
* GPSDO: Improved detection. Improved query_gpsdo sensor.
* RFNoC: Fixed issue with DDC and DUC command tick rate.
* UHD: Fixed potential memory leak in tasks. Fixed
get_normalized_tx_gain(). Fixed default socket buffer size to honor MTU.
* Examples: Added channel param to samps to/from file. sync_to_gps exits
instead of uncaught throw. latency_test improved output. Use next_pps in
test_clock_synch. Added TwinRX FHSS example.
* Utils: Modified behaviour of uhd_images_downloader so it won't delete
dirs when using -i
* Tools: Updates to CHDR dissector. Added set_time_source_out(). Fixed LO
API.
* C API: Fixed some missing fields in USRP info.
* Docs: Many minor fixes. Fixed Doxygen warnings related to /* in files.
* CMake: Fixed GCC 4.4 compilation issue. Added ability to specify package
names.

Best regards,
Derek

 Hi,

Is there any example codes or reference on how to configure the B210 to TDD
mode? Thanks.
