What I failed to report is that, now that the AprLifecycleListener is initialised and the library is loaded, I can't access Tomcat anymore!!! Hitting localhost:8080 gives me (Firefox):
Connection Interrupted The document contains no data. The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again. As soon as I remove tcnative-1.dll and restart Tomcat, everything is back to normal again. Is there something more I need to do?
