I'm installing tomcat as service on my machine. I used to work with
tomcat 5.0 and after installing it I updated it by the following
command:
"Tomcat\bin\tomcat5.exe" //US//serviceName -Startup Auto ++JvmOptions
-Xms512m;-Xmx1024m

If all else fails try run this from cmd line
sc delete tomcat5
For some reason sometimes XP hangs onto an old service.
Not sure it related but sometimes also wont do service install from exe
package.
The above fixes it.
