How to set keep alive on the TCP socket?

We (and some of our customers) have firewalls that disconnect "inactive" connections, so all requests that take more than some time to complete get silently disconnected and never return. I think soKeepAlive is supposed to fix that problem, but I do not see how to configure it. The only references I could find are for cluster configuration.
