The above is somewhat incomplete. 1) The <Context> element is not required for a webapp; many will run quite happily without one. 2) The <Context> element would normally be in the META-INF/context.xml file of the webapp, but can be overridden by placing it in conf/Catalina/[host]/[appName].xml. 3) Putting <Context> elements in server.xml is strongly discouraged.
