This is a point of constant tension.

On the one hand, people expect that the framework should provide
out-of-the-box functionality and that includes client-side validation, the
ability to update content in place (the Zone component, etc.). It also
includes super-common functionality, like the Alerts system, and the
floating JavaScript console.

On the other hand, there's the desire to not be locked in.

I would rather concentrate on Bootstrap 3 (in the hopes that it would be
stable) and perhaps work on a (funded?) extension to downgrade to Bootstrap
2.
