IIRC I updated prototype to 1.6.1 in the 5.0.x as well in order to fix the compatibility issues with
IE8. So just grab the latest SNAPSHOT release of 5.0 if you can. It should be available from
http://repository.apache.org/snapshots/

Tried that and failed. Tapx-prototype seems to be for 5.1.x and above
only. The only option I can think of is to rebuild tapestry with the
latest version of prototype. An option I try to avoid for various
reasons. Upgrading to a later version of Tapestry is not possible
either at the minute. It's on my list todo though.
Again, if somebody has an idea or a solution on how to achieve that,
please let me know.

This has been said several times in the Mailing list.

Hi,
I was wondering whether there is an easy way to replace the prototype.js
library with a newer version? I am using Tapestry 5.0.11.
I had a look at Howards article
http://tapestryjava.blogspot.com/2009/10/tapestry-51-and-ie-8-customizing.htmlto
get started, unfortunately, to no avail.
Any pointers are much appreciated.
Cheers,
Alex
