Should it not still work for backward compatibility?
This change was made very recently and I haven't looked at that yet, so I
don't know the answer. Anyway, from reading Howard's post about it on his
blog, the change was made to make it easier to add class transformations
and to not rely (or at least rely less) on Javassist for that.
