Hi, this https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/TAP5-245 (Better documentation on development environment) is still opened and http://tapestry.apache.org/tapestry5/tutorial1/env.html is outdated and not covering some cases.
There has been numerous discussions on this list on several dev setups, but as I already said - the newcomers expect to read this stuff on the main T5 page.
