Perl is maintained on the CentOS side, they backport a bunch of updates into 
the 5.8.8 packaged version.  It's not purely "autopilot" nor "doing nothing."

As I mentioned, I run SA 3.4.0 on CentOS 5.11 with no problems.  Running lint, 
the only thing I see is a bunch of "rule has no description" warnings.  No 
other warning, no errors.

I have various plugins enabled including (but not limited to) Razor, Pyzor, 
DCC, SpamCop, and Bayes.  ifplugin works just fine over here.
