Running spamd (SA-3.3.0) under FreeBSD 6.2 I see frequent timeout errors and message. When these occur, the mailserver seems to stop responding for seconds:
04:18:19 mail spamd[67527]: (__alarm__ignore__(141359)) 04:18:58 mail spamd[67527]: check: exceeded time limit, skipping further tests 04:19:33 mail spamd[67531]: spamd: processing message <bu6md6pbq5gvk2au46vj0aqfjqt4ec.1890692901.3...@mta714.e.homedecorators.com> for vpopmail:89 04:19:44 mail spamd[67531]: check: exceeded time limit in pms check 04:20:05 mail spamd[67537]: check: exceeded time limit, skipping further tests 04:20:26 mail spamd[67531]: spamd: timeout: (300 second timeout while trying to PROCESS) and in the midst of this: 04:19:43 mail postfix/smtpd[67327]: timeout after MAIL from unknown[195.171.107.130] 04:20:06 mail postfix/smtpd[67080]: lost connection after RCPT from unknown[81.193.87.1] 04:20:06 mail postfix/smtpd[66893]: lost connection after RCPT from unknown[221.178.2.247] These timeouts and lost connections seems to be coinciding with spamd timeout messages. These times the mailserver is under quite light load and certainly do not have enough traffic that it would be overwhelming any process. Anything I can do to further trouble shoot this or eliminate these timeout errors? -- ...gentlemen in England now a-bed Shall think themselves accursed the were not here,
