Why is it my responsibility as a holder of a valid email address to accept
mail from anyone who wants to send me the mail? As the owner of the email
address or, as the admin of the domain's mail server, I have no obligation
to accept your mail at all.

Obligations should be on the sender.

Nor am I obligated to accept and read messages from you. Including your C/R challenges.

You're also not obligated to be a good "net citizen", but if you're not, then you can and should expect to have your mail server black listed by people who consider that to be important. After all, just as you are not required to accept and read someone's email, the internet at large is also not required to accept and read yours. And things like C/R and SAV are both good criteria of "not being a good net citizen".
