here is my /etc/default/spamassassin file :
ENABLED=1
OPTIONS="--create-prefs --helper-home-dir -v -m 10 -u vpopmail
--nouser-config"
PIDFILE="/var/run/spamd.pid"
and i use /etc/init.d/spamassassin to start/stop it...
