automated mails etc are often send from empty or non-existent e-mail
addresses.

Any legitimate email will have a valid sender address.  That includes
DSNs and automated messages.

Yes, and that address is, by RFC mandate, empty. An empty (meaning "<>") address is a valid sender address, and must be accepted.
