Try with this options in your spamassassin config file
lock_method flock
bayes_auto_expire 1
bayes_learn_to_journal 1
Then your lock method are changed to mutex semaphores and no more lock files are generated. This options causes a good performance change on my server.

This occurs from time to time so bayes databases cannot be opened.
Is there an option to remove any locks on startup or after idle period?
