per a comment *from* the sare list, it seems that -- though it wasn't in the 
docs that *i*
managed to find/read -- rdj's conf file does, in fact, allow you to specify 
vars the script uses.

so, in my case of --lint,  simply adding an rdj.conf entry of:

SA_LINT="spamassassin --lint \
- --siteconfigpath=/var/MailServer/Conf/SA/Dist \
- --configpath=/var/MailServer/Conf/SA/Local \
- --prefs-file=local.cf \
- --nocreate-prefs"

makes all my errors go away. :-)

as for filing a bug here, i think i should simply note the 'ongoing' for a bit 
... seems stuff
is changing too often/frequently.

i'll keep an eye on it, and file if things don't mystically improve in a while.
