Spamcop users are idiots too. When you have end users pushing
the 'this is spam' button when they get an email that they
don't like from their own friends or family, well... you get Spamcop.
That's a lovely generalisation and bears little relation to reality.
From where I stand, he's right on the mark. Spamcop is run by morons,
is supported by morons, and is used by morons. I see no reason to give
qualification nor exception to any phrase in that sentence. SpamCop
has certainly never given me any reason to view them in any other
light.
For the record, I have had MULTIPLE cases of SpamCop deciding to list
one of my own mail relays when they receive a spam report from one of
my users. We have front line machines that do spam/virus filtering,
and then back-line machines that do pop/imap/webmail/etc. It is almost
comical how frequently SpamCop identifies the front-line machines as
the source of spam when one of the users on the back-line machines
decides to send it to SpamCop. And they kept doing it even after we
informed them of our topography. They just can't be bothered to
develop accurate heuristics. As a result, I actively discourage any
of our users from thinking of SpamCop as anything other than something
to add color and texture to your toilet paper. Unfortunately, in any
large organization, you end up with at least a few people who just wont
listen.
(what I would REALLY like is for SpamCop to ignore any reports that
come from users on my servers ... but they don't seem to want to do
that either)
Maybe you have a bee in your bonnet about spamcop, but insulting all
its users is not going to help
Those who support a service cause the service to remain in existence.
Therefore, users of a problematic service are just as culpable in
keeping it in use as the people who provide it out there in the first
place.
We've had similar issues in the past, but user education can help
mitigate
this. Unless you are getting a lot of spamcop reports you aren't going
to be
blacklisted immediately anyway
This one block is hilarious, given the VERY next thing you quote from
the previous poster:
As a result, she got our server blacklisted several times and
affected about 400 users. I went round and round with her
telling her to knock it off.
him: "we got blacklisted"
you: "you aren't going to be blacklisted immediately anyway"
him: "I went round and round with her" (indicating he did in fact try
to correct her behavior)
you: "user education can help mitigate this"
Either you're not reading what you're replying to, not even what you're
quoting (in which case you're an ignorant moron), or you're not capable
of understanding what you have read and quoted (in which case you're an
illiterate moron).
Thank you for providing evidence to support my above statement. The
people who run, support, and/or use Spamcop are morons.
