This information can be found in the SpamAssassin Wiki, and I think also in
the Upgrade document that came with the install.

It looks like you are either upgrading from an older version, or you found
one of the sites with very old "how to" information about setting up your
system.

You don't say how you are trying to start spamd.  Somewhere there will be a
command line to do that.  That command line has a "-a" option on it.  Remove
that option.

If you want to use the auto whitelist (which is now enabled by default) look
in local.cf and see about setting up the use_auto_whitelist option in that
file.  Again, the documentation tells you how to set this up if you want to
use it.
