Are you by chance using GPG 1.4.x? There is this note in the release announcement: Note: GnuPG 1.4.0, and possibly 1.3.x versions, seem to have problems verifying certain signature files, including the type as used for SpamAssassin releases. If you are running an affected version, please verify the code using both MD5 and SHA1 sum values instead. Michael
