Oh well, this was my own goof then I guess. I run sendmail, and I'm a programmer, but I don't do email for a living, so I only learn things as I pick them up slowly.

huh? They have been doing this for YEARS, google don't care because they get to scan (inspect) all the mail, even in transit, that's not "tinfoil hat" rubbish either since they long admit it. it's why anyone who whitelists gmail is a fool (much like those who use gmail in the first place), we in fact add a positive score for all google/gmail connections
