I agree with you that a provider should do the filtering and the clients should not need a spamfilter.

But that's two 'should's. In practice not all providers have a spamfilter and those that do don't always work all that well. Those that have a provider that has an effective spamfilter may count their blessings.

So a client-side spamkiller is something many end users need.

It, however, does not need to be SA. There are options out there that are easier to use and more suited to your typical user. And that's fine; each has a niche.

SA for the ISP-side heavy lifting, and the other stuff for end-user cleanup.
