Antispam should NOT happen at the client!

It should happen at the ISP level. Otherwise POP3 or IMAP has already
downloaded the stupid thing. Whats the sense in that? SO you don't have to
read it, big whoop! Still took up your time already.

With ever more people on some form of broadband with an always-on machine, that argument is getting less strong by the day. What do I care if I have to download it, as long as I don't have to see it? I run my own mailserver, with SA. My provider only delivers the bits.

Still...

ISPs need to make it easier for home users.

No argument here. I probably don't qualify as your typical 'home user' :-).

So my answer to lloe and any other end user is simple, TELL YOUR ISP TO DO
SOMETHING ABOUT IT! Like use SA for example :)

Agreed. The guy that accepts and holds your mail should do the majority of the spam- & viruskilling. SA is for them, not for Joe Sixpack. But there are tools for Joe as well; the Mozilla or Mozilla Thunderbird Bayesian filter works quite well for instance, and there are others.

SpamAssassin just isn't one of them.
