OpenOffice.org is a full office suite similar to and compatible with
Microsoft Office. You can use the "Writer" component to create text
documents in the same manner as Microsoft Word. OpenOffice.org is a free
download from www.openoffice.org, so I don't know what alternative
you're referring to. You can use "Save as" to save a text document in
Word format, but the default is the ODT format. You can also select to
email in MS Word format.


I know what he's talking about. I, too, have been receiving a SPAMMING email offering Open Office alternative to MS Office, but the download site is not the OOo site, so I have just been sending it to my junk folder. I've received that same email probably a dozen times in the past two or three months.
