Rory, I'm not very familiar with sections. Can Michael do Insert > Section 
after he already has the index in his main document? Or should he do it in the 
main document before adding the index? In that case, how do you recommend that 
he add the index? Insert > Text from File? Copy and paste?

Could a similar effect be obtained without a Section, by just starting a new 
page style? Maybe by doing Insert > More Breaks > Manual Break, and then 
choosing 'Page break' with a specific page style? I see that an Index page 
style is offered. (I'm using LibreOffice, so maybe it's different in 
OpenOffice?)

(I apologize for top posting after you bottom posted. I haven't figured out how 
to bottom post in a reasonable way with this Web interface.)

Place cursor where you want the Index, then /Insert /Section and set that up 
with columns as you require.
