I was unable to download a non-broken copy of OpenOffice today. I followed
the instructions on this <http://www.openoffice.org/download/checksums.html>
checksums page. Here is the information requested:
I just downloaded the deb version and verified it with md5sum. It was
quite easy to do. After downloading the file, enter "md5sum
Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.1_Linux_x86-64_install-deb_en-US.tar.gz" and
compare the results with the listed md5sum on the md5 link. It's that easy.
Where is the md5 link to use
to compare the md5 sums?
Details of MD5 checking are given in this note linked off the main download page
http://www.openoffice.org/download/checksums.html
The MD5 checksum for the selected file are in a link (cunningly labeled MD5) towards the
right of the line labelled "Full Installation" under the file selection dialog.
How freaking lame is that???
Compare that to Linux OS download web page, for example from a mirror:
http://mirrors.kernel.org/fedora/releases/22/Workstation/x86_64/iso/
The page has a loud and clear link to CHECKSUMS!!!!
One should select the desired file (language, operating system and version) from the
dropdowns on http://www.openoffice.org/download (only use this site, please). The
selection mechanism will redirect automatically to a (nearby) SourceForge server and the
download will start automatically in 5 - 10 seconds with no need to click on anything
else other than to confirm "Download or Save?" (dialog browser specific).
