I just downloaded the deb version and verified it with md5sum. It was quite easy to do. After downloading the file, enter "md5sum Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.1_Linux_x86-64_install-deb_en-US.tar.gz" and compare the results with the listed md5sum on the md5 link.
