Roberto Galoppini, the author of the post Larry links to, is a member of the
Apache OpenOffice Project Management Committee (PMC).

The downloads for Apache OpenOffice have never been part of that mirroring
effort. The downloads of Apache OpenOffice via
http://openoffice.org/downloads/ and served by SourceForge are authentic
versions and they can be verified with the digital hashes and PGP signatures
provided for them (and carried on the Apache site, not SourceForge).

News about a problem with inappropriate mirrored version is seriously out of
date. It also had nothing to do with the download service provided for Apache
OpenOffice.

There is a problem with how the download page that appears after request for a
download provides a miniscule indication that a download will start shortly,
one far less obvious than the prominent ads that often provide download buttons
and that lead unwary users to think it is necessary to click those buttons too.
We continue to work with SourceForge, making use of Roberto's good offices, to
avoid users downloading other software in the expectation they are obtaining
Apache OpenOffice.
