Right click on one of these "orange" icons and select "Open With" from the popup menu. If OpenOffice is offered from the dropdown select that, otherwise go to the bottom of the popup window where there should be an offering of "Select other program" and navigate to /Programs /Files(x86) /OpenOffice and choose soffice.exe. There should also be a checkbox (or something) to "Always use this program to open these files". Now the "orange" icons should open by double clicking on them.
