I do almost exactly the same thing!      (Also on Fedora LInux.)

And can't agree more with holding on to a revision or two.

While most of times I can just use the latest 'GA' netbeans version; once
or twice I've ran into a regression that made me fall back.   Nice to just
re-point a link and restart.
